Help Musicians and specialist industry advisers from the charity's Do It Differently Fund discuss strategies that have helped musicians adapt to the digital-only current musical landscape.

    David was the first employee at Help Musicians in Scotland and his role as Development Officer helped establish the charity across Scotland. Over the last three years, he has successfully delivered outreach strategy and collaborative activities engaging the needs of Scottish musicians and music creators with the Charity's career development and well-being services.

    Marketing, business development and business affairs are the core strands to Andy Edward’s impressive career and that has played out over the past twenty-five years. Beginning in major labels (BMG Records and Sony Music), before moving into the world of start-ups, then transitioning into artist management. He has worked on marketing campaigns for Lauryn Hill, Destiny’s Child, George Michael, Leftfield, U2, Genesis, Feeder and New Order. Over the years, business affairs have formed an increasing part of his responsibilities, both at a corporate level and on behalf of artist clients. Artist clients have included Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Chase and Status, James Morrison, Dido and Katherine Jenkins and Andy also manages Grammy award winning producer and mixer Cameron Craig. Additionally, he has sat on the UK Music board in various capacities and currently as chair of the Futures Group. Alongside this, he has been a longstanding board director of the Music Managers Forum (MMF) and has acted as an advisor to Imogen Heap and the Featured Artists Coalition. In these various roles he has campaigned to improve transparency, diversity and mental health, in addition to joining industry-wide support for the EU Copyright Directive. He is an artist advisor for Help Musicians UK.

    Jessie Scoullar
    Founding Director, Wicksteed Works

    Wicksteed Works is a boutique consultancy laser focused on empowering musicians to maximise their audience and sales potential through connection, communication and coordination of kick ass direct-to-fan campaigns. Founding director Jessie Scoullar cut her teeth on the world of direct-to-fan in the fast-paced environment of Topspin Media’s Creative Services team, where she produced campaigns for major artists including Fatboy Slim, Sigur Rós, and Paul McCartney. In 2012 she set up Wicksteed Works as an independent direct-to-fan agency and went on to work with Noel Gallagher, Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling and more. Before leaving her native New Zealand in 2007, she worked with CRS Management and practised as a commercial solicitor.
