Museums Immersive Network: Got Tech?

MIN 2022: Got Tech? A webinar focused on the meaningful application of immersive technology in museums and heritage organisations.

Join us for MIN 2022: Got Tech? A webinar focused on the meaningful application of immersive technology in museums and heritage organisations.

Colleagues from Museums, Heritage, and Digital organisations share their experiences of making the most of technology to enhance the experience of audiences. 'Got Tech?' is a deep dive into making technology work for your organisation. From large-scale augmented reality in communities to potato-powered digital experiences! This webinar will open discussion around what types of technology are right for specific experiences, audiences, and locations. There is no 'one size fits all' approach to meaningful uses of immersive technology!

We believe in promoting a considered approach to the application of technology in museums and heritage organisations. Don't get swept up in jargon and the latest and greatest tech. Often a creative, outside-of-the-box approach uncovers the most incredible immersive experiences.

The webinar link will be sent out at 13:00 on 6th September after registration closes.

We are excited to welcome the following contributors to MIN2022...

Helen Scarlett O'Neill: StoryTrails - Helen is based in the Scottish Highlands where she and her company ONEILL/ROSS are using mobile technologies to propose new futures for rural tourism. Helen is an immersive participatory and site-responsive specialist with 20 Secret Cinema productions under her belt and having led special projects for the National Trust and The National Archives, reimagining how we engage with history and culture. She ran west London's site specific commissioning Festival InTRANSIT for seven years, commissioning over 100 new pieces of innovative work in the public realm. She is currently Immersive Mobile AR Producer for StroryTrails at Story Futures Academy, uncovering untold histories in 15 UK locations. Helen is also a visiting public space arts expert at Fontys University of Fine Arts in the Netherlands.

Roy and Natalia Jones: Discovering 42 - Reimagining Reality is an innovative exhibition for Cornwall that merges science with art and sustainability. The immersive experience is the vision of Roy and Natalia Jones, a husband and wife team who have worked with local volunteers and artists to craft the exhibits from waste materials. Natalia studied Psychology and Environmental Management at university and Roy studied Video Production. Together they ran a successful video production company, working with clients such as National Trust and English Heritage. Natalia and Roy knew that with a lack of experience in this industry, they would struggle to raise millions to create a stereotypical science exhibition and they would need to think outside the box to create something different, yet equally engaging. From this, Discovering42 was born.

Run by Cornwall Museums Partnership in collaboration with XpoNorth, the Museums Immersive Network aims to promote and share best practice, new developments, skills development opportunities, and potential collaborations with immersive technology and museums.

The Museums Immersive Network [MIN] was founded in June 2020 by Cornwall Museums Partnership and XpoNorth, in response to the growing challenges faced by museums wishing to explore the potential of technology. The Network aims to share best practice, new developments, and potential collaborations with immersive technology and museums. We hope this work will support our aim to create equitable, confident and purposeful collaborations between museums and immersive technology developers.

Immersive technology offers the potential to radically influence the ways we interpret our collections and share our stories. Museums Immersive Network aims to support the establishment of immersive technology more broadly within the cultural sector and boost confidence in working with tech businesses to create new experiences for our communities.

We would also like to thank Raven Sun Creative for their generous support of the Network.
