Pitching Your Work to Agents and Publishers | With Jenny Brown, Vikki Reilly and Peter Urpeth
With the sixth edition of its unique tweet pitch event for authors set to take place on 15 January, XpoNorth is very pleased to announce a special online event for writers wanting to hone their pitching skills prior to the big event.
Literary agent Jenny Brown and publishing marketing expert, Vikki Reilly of Publishing Scotland will join XpoNorth’s Publishing Sector Specialist Peter Urpeth to talk you through the dos and don’ts of pitching your work.
The event is open to all writers looking for advice on marketing their work to agents and publishers, and of course how to use those skills to make a strong and engaging impression in XpoNorth’s Tweet Pitch.
Jenny Brown
Jenny Brown established the Edinburgh-based literary agency Jenny Brown Associates in 2002.
The agency is known for representing Scottish-based writers of literary and crime fiction, narrative nonfiction, and writing for children.
Jenny was previously founder director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, (of which she is now Vice Chair) and Head of Literature at the Scottish Arts Council.
She is Chair of the crime writing festival Bloody Scotland.
Vikki Reilly
Vikki is the Marketing, Events & Sales Support Manager at Publishing Scotland, the trade and network body for Scottish publishing.
She has worked for nearly 20 years in the book industry, first as a bookseller, then in the sales and marketing departments of Mainstream Publishing, Mercat Press and Birlinn Ltd, where she was also a member of the editorial board.
If she had to give advice on pitching in 280 characters or less, it would be: keep it sparky, direct and intriguing.
Peter Urpeth
Peter is XpoNorth Sector Specialist in Publishing and Writing. He is a writer and journalist with more than 35 years of experience, and has worked in developing the publishing sector in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland for 18 years.
