CANADA – SCOTLAND CO-DEVELOPMENT INCENTIVE FOR TELEVISION AND DIGITAL MEDIA CONTENT
The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) are offering a new funding incentive for the development of screen-based projects between Canadian and Scottish Producers. The Incentive has also been supported by Screen Scotland.
The aim of the incentive is to encourage businesses working in television production to work internationally, improve connections with international broadcasters, encourage innovation and consider the possibilities of multiple distribution platforms and digital innovation. The incentive will support projects that have the potential to be high quality broadcast productions and/or digital innovations, developed with the aim of a commission and transmission from broadcasters in both Scotland and Canada.
The total amount of funding available through the Incentive is $300,000 (CAD) – approximately £200,000 with approximately $150,000 (CAD) contributed by the CMF and approximately $150,000 (CAD) contributed by HIE and Screen Scotland.
The maximum that can be awarded to any project is $50,000(CAD).
To be eligible, television projects must be in the drama, documentary, animation, or education genres, or digital media content made for other platforms, including web series, transmedia projects, and virtual or augmented reality.
This incentive is open to companies across Scotland with applications from companies based in the Highlands and Islands region particularly encouraged. We also encourage applications that have equalities, diversity and inclusion as a key consideration of the project.
To view the full guidelines, including project eligibility, please click here. This link will take you to all required documentation and templates. The same information needs to be submitted to HIE and CMF. The Scottish submissions should be sent to email@example.com or alternatively posted to Iain Hamilton, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, An Lòchran, 10 Inverness Campus, Inverness, IV2 5NA.
The closing date for applications is 10thDecember 2019.
There are two distinct differences between the Canadian and the Scottish side of the scheme. Money awarded to the Scottish partner is not recoupable even if the project successfully goes into production, and Canadian partners need to provide a letter of interest from a broadcaster, which the Scottish production does not, however additional support of this type will strengthen the application.
