This scarf reveals a unique view of our planet, a view of Adélie penguin colonies in the Antarctic. The Heroína Island, at the northeast end of the Danger Islands in the Antarctic, hosts over 500,000 Adélie penguins, the third-largest colony known.
The Penguin Planet Look Closely Black silk scarf is part of our new Climate Change Collection. The design was inspired by the Penguin Metropolis project, an aerial image by Nathan Fenney, British Antarctic Survey, part of UK Universities COP26 Network's Innovation Showcase.
The aerial image was taken during an airborne survey in November 2019 as part of the British Antarctic Survey's Antarctic Peninsula Penguin Census (APPC) project.
Last year, we soft-launched part of the Climate Change Collection for COP26 and will launch the entire collection later this month.
Every scarf from this collection comes with a booklet sharing science-based climate change stories from the ocean perspective. Project partners include the Scottish Association for Marine Science, The University of Edinburgh, Newcastle University and British Antarctic Survey.
We promised to give our project partners 10% of our profits to support important environmental science and fund our ocean literacy outreach activities.
