‘Made in UK’ hit by post-Brexit skills crisis

UK clothing manufacturers are desperately searching for skilled garment workers as the fallout from coronavirus and Brexit bites.

Back in 2019, UK manufacturers warned the fashion industry could face a “severe” shortage of skilled workers if a recommendation to restrict the migration of workers comes into force after Brexit. At the time, the Fashion Roundtable, the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Textiles and Fashion convened a meeting at the Houses of Parliament, calling for skilled garment workers, such as production or sample machinists, to be included on the shortage occupation visa list.
