Here are more details on some great XpoNorth Writing & Publishing curated conference sessions and events taking place over the two days of this year's festival.

Properly launched for the first time here at XpoNorth, Dr Charles Kriel introduces Lightful – a news and fundraising platform powered by Beyond Profit Organisations.

Charles Kriel

Event: From Punking Putin To Islamic State - Launching Lightful Date: Thursday 9th June 2016 Time: 4:30pm - 6pm Location: The Jim Love Studio, Eden Court Cost: FREE - XpoNorth Festival Delegate Pass Required

Lightful was born out of Kriel’s work promoting the free press in conflict zones – building a radio station for women behind Islamic State frontlines, training Crimean bloggers, and bringing together Azerbaijani and Armenian journalists over Nagorno-Karabakh. Because he sees the same issues plague journalists and NGO workers around the world, Lightful is, he believes, the news and fundraising solution for the 99%.

Magazines come in all shapes and sizes – digital and print, newsstand and free, consumer and B2B – and publishers are making money in increasingly diverse ways. With data and social media now key to any successful business, global opportunities have grown exponentially as publishers become bolder and more determined to succeed.
