6pm – 6.30pm: XpoNorth Unpacked
XpoNorth and the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) Creative Industries Team will offer an overview of the new sector support services available to creative businesses across the Highlands and Islands as well as the recently launched XpoNorth Digital Programme. There will also be a spotlight on the conference element of XpoNorth, a discussion on the benefits of attending and showcasing at this important platform, and a preview of some of the key themes and speakers confirmed to participate in this year’s festival.

6.30pm – 7.15pm: Why I Went Indie with Barry Hutchison
Best-selling children’s author Barry Hutchison set up his own publishing company and, in the process, has smashed Amazon with strong sales and created a loyal readership. In this talk, Barry will give an update on his work and on the current opportunities and issues for writers.
Barry Hutchison: Writer
Barry Hutchison is a multi-award-winning author, screenwriter and writer of comics. Based in Fort William, Barry has written for publishers including HarperCollins, Penguin Random House and Oxford University Press. In 2016, Barry set up his own science fiction publishing company to publish Space Team, his comedy sci-fi series. Since then, the series has sold hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide, spawned a spin-off series, and is currently in development as a graphic novel.
7.15pm – 8pm: Crowdfunding Creativity
Crowdfunding is an increasingly popular source of funding for many individuals and organisations and is a process which can deliver much more than money. In this session, leading crowdfunding consultant, Tim Wright (XpoNorth, Sector Specialist and Owner, twintangibles) will draw on practical examples and theories around the crowd economy to demystify the process and offer participants a broader understanding of crowdfunding, discuss how to design and promote your campaign, avoid common pitfalls, look at which platforms best suit your project and overview the value and skills needed to succeed.

Tim Wright is Director and Co-founder of twintangibles - a management consultancy that helps organisations create value through accessing the crowd economy. Tim provides expert insight into organisations like the OECD, European Commission and the Scottish Government and is author of ‘The Scottish Crowdfunding Report’. Tim has delivered keynotes at conferences across the world and is co-author, with Daniela Castrataro, of ‘Crowdfunding - Come finanziarsi online’ and ‘Ideas to Reality’ co-authored with John Reid.
8pm – 8.45pm: Artist Development Spotlight
This open session will see XpoNorth’s Alex Smith sit down with leading producer and artist Joe McAlinden for a lively discussion on artist development and how musicians and music businesses are achieving success in the current industry climate. Joe will also discuss his current venture, Single Track, producing and collaborating with new talent and taking them to market under an exciting new partnership with leading Management Company ie:Music (Robbie Williams, Passenger, Ladyhawke etc).
Joe McAlinden: Owner, Single Track HQ, Artist, Producer
Joe is a classically trained singer-songwriter who writes and records music from his studio in rural Argyll. His band, Superstar, were signed to Creation Records in 1992 by Alan McGee and released seven albums in eight years. He has played/written/collaborated with Rod Stewart, Teenage Fanclub, Big Star/Alex Chilton, novelist Alan Warner and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He has also composed music for Channel Five, Disney ABC, Sky One, Sky Sports, Sky HD and Vodafone.
