This is a programme of training for Early Years practitioners and their centres to support testing of Screen Scotland's draft film and screen curriculum in early years settings.

Screen Scotland has created a draft Film and Screen Curriculum for Scotland. The curriculum is designed as an expressive art for Scotland’s schools and focusses on practical filmmaking for the classroom, from early years to senior phase.

Screen Scotland is delighted to be partnering with Breaking The Wall, a specialist film and screen education company, to provide film and screen curriculum delivery training for Early Years practitioners across Scotland as part of Phase Three of our curriculum testing programme. Ian Cameron, of Breaking the Wall, is one of the original authors of the Draft Film and Screen Curriculum and has been a Screen Educator in Residence since the inception of curriculum testing 2023, including a successful pilot film and screen training programme for Early Years Practitioners. The reported impact of this pilot programme has been wholly positive.

Breaking the Wall in partnership with Screen Scotland are offering every local authority in Scotland the opportunity to have this training delivered in their settings. This testing will comprise in-person and online training, and classroom support for Early Years Practitioners.

Training will take place within local authority centres, as selected by Early Years Officers in each local authority. Method of delivery (full days/half days/evenings etc) will be negotiated in collaboration with all partners to accommodate for geography, practitioner availability, etc. These will be unique to each authority and establishment and may include, but are not limited to:

- Cluster training provision.
- Individual centre training provision.
- In-class, real-time support, and delivery.
- Resource development.
- 1:1 online support and mentoring.

The programme is fully funded by Screen Scotland and there is no cost to participating authorities/centres beyond hosting the training in house and participating in evaluation. Training is on offer from June 2024 to May 2025.
