Food Systems in the UK and beyond: Navigating through uncertainties
Owing to growing uncertainties around food security, research into global food systems require reinvigorated approach and continual focus. In addition to challenges from climate change, growing population, resource depletion, and change in socio-political balance, the current COVID19 pandemic has exposed the vulnerability of food systems in the UK and beyond. Furthermore, uncertainties attached with Brexit requires renewed focus to build resilience towards secure food systems. This sandpit (online) aims to bring in experts from food systems research, industries, policy, and STFC scientists to innovate and co-design scoping projects (~£10K) that can address the current challenges faced by food systems across food production, supply chain, nutritional security and consumer behaviour in the UK and beyond (Africa and Asia) through the applications of data science, technologies and STFC facilities. We aim to fund around 10 projects. All project ideas can be pitched on 21st July 2020: 9.30-12.30 (Details to follow in a webinar before the sandpit).
