Radio goNORTH Archive 2013 Features Going Back to My Roots

Paul lived in Inverness 40 years ago when he was 6 years old, but only for a short time. Over the years his dad’s army job saw him move around to places like Singapore and Edinburgh. However something about his time in Inverness stuck in his mind over the years. He has a vivid memory of the short walk home from Lochardil Primary School to his old home on Laggan Road.

Radio goNORTH were happy to record this special moment for Paul as he traces his 6 year old footsteps back from school. At school he remembers his first dabble in crime when he stole from the local shop – after being told off from his parents he quickly decided a life of crime was not for him. A short walk through MacDonald Park brought back more memories and a play on swings, although was worried about visiting his old home on Laggan Road.

Will they think he is trying to sell them something? Or will they just not let him in? Or will they call the Police? He gets to the street but before he can think about what he needs to do next he calls his mum just to make sure he is in the right place. A lot has changed in Inverness in 40 years: the people are different, the roads are different and the houses are different.

Join Paul as he walks around his old neighbourhood and relives some childhood memories from the 1970s.
