Smartify Digital Opportunity for Highlands and Islands Museums

Smartify Digital Opportunity for Highlands and Islands Museums

XpoNorth Digital are partnering with Smartify for a second year to give a further three museums from across the Highlands and Islands the opportunity to showcase their collection on the world’s most downloaded museum app and tell their story to audiences all over the planet.

Following on from a successful partnership of six museums already established, this transformational project will see three museums have their venue listed on the app and platform, their collection (up to a max of 200 objects) digitised and uploaded, a 5min video telling their story or multi-media tour, the opportunity to create an e-shop and all the data and support needed to ensure they get the most from the opportunity.

This opportunity is open to any museum based in the Highlands and Islands and participants will be selected through an open application process delivered in collaboration with our partner and stakeholder networks.

Nicola Henderson, XpoNorth Digital Heritage Advisor said:

"Smartify has over 3 million users across the world. That’s 3 million people who love museums, who love history, who love art. In year one of this project, we have worked closely with museums, supporting them with skills development workshops around understanding their audiences, identifying what they want to achieve from using digital tools, how to identify the best tools and content creation skills. From that the museums, with support from Smartify and a digital content creator, have delivered some outstanding experiences for visitors (either in person or remotely) to engage with and deepen their understanding of their stories and collections. We are still working with them to market those experiences and reach the Highland diaspora around the world. I’m excited to welcome an additional three museums to the network and see what new ideas and opportunities they can bring to the project. It is a fantastic opportunity to reach audiences with an interest in culture and heritage around the world and encourage them to engage more deeply with Highland heritage."

Smartify connects people to art. Trusted by cultural organisations around the world; they entertain, enliven and enrich audiences. Smartify’s innovative technology and engaging storytelling makes cultural heritage accessible for a global audience. More than 2 million artworks from the world’s greatest museums have been scanned on the platform, accessed by more than 3 million registered users through state-of-the-art object recognition, digital wayfinding and augmented reality. That, combined with speed, reliability and depth, makes Smartify the world’s most successful museum application.

Smartify’s ground-breaking leadership is recognised by the 2021 American Alliance of Museums Muse Award for Interactive Experiences; three Webby Awards (Best Art App; Best Use of the Mobile Camera; and People’s Choice); the 2019 UN World Summit Award for Culture and Tourism; and the 2018 GLOMO for Most Innovative App at the Mobile World Congress.

We will also be running a dedicated information session in partnership with Smartify to allow museums to gain more information on the opportunity and ask any questions. This will be online on 23rd November and we’d recommend attending this session in advance of making a formal application.
