Heritage as a Creative Future: The Story Behind Garments (Part 1)

How can the stories within our wardrobes create a sustainable fashion future

Worn is a collaborative organisation founded by fashion practitioners Abigail Jubb and Morag Seaton. Inspired by our relationships with our clothes, Worn offers workshops, collaborations and storytelling that challenge negative fashion cultures through new approaches and celebrate the significance of everyday wardrobes. To learn more about Worn’s ongoing projects, please look at their website (wornworkshop.com) and instagram (@wornworkshop).

Abigail Jubb is a PhD researcher, educator and freelancer in artisanal fashion. Her patchwork of interests in fashion history, theory and practice are informed by her work in industry, academia and heritage.

Morag Seaton is a designer and maker with a focus on abstract tailoring, functional detail and environmental solutions for fashion design. She works across different areas of the clothing industry within sustainable development and production.

Focusing on the narrative of the objects constituting our material environment, this workshop will invite you to a prospective approach of the stories of the objects defining yourselves. How can we tell the stories of the objects gathered in our communities? How does the bond with the past help create a more sustainable relationship between the user and the product? How does the concept of nostalgia stimulate the connection between the user and the material environment designed for them?
