Ahead of XpoNorth Digital’s TweetPitch on Friday 20th January 2023, three of Scotland’s leading literary agents will set the scene around the current marketplace for books, look at this year’s growing trends and offer their perspective on what publishers and readers are seeking. During this session the agents will tell us what they are individually looking for and offer key insights on what works and what doesn’t work when making a pitch in 2023.
Glaswegian by birth, Louise has been working in literary agencies since 2006. She joined LBA Books in 2013, and now has a list of award-winning authors and illustrators across both the adult and children’s markets.
Caro Clark is a literary agent with over twelve years' experience in publishing – at Transworld (PRH) and at Canongate Books as a Senior Rights Manager. They were named Rights Professional of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2021. In 2019, they co-founded the Nan Shepherd Prize for underrepresented nature writers, which kickstarted a passion to demystify the publishing industry and help emerging writers to develop their craft and build their writing careers. Portobello Literary was established in 2022 to build on that work.
Jenny Brown established Jenny Brown Associates in 2002. She was previously Head of Literature at the Scottish Arts Council, presenter of book programmes for Scottish Television, and founder Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival (of which she is now a Board member). She is also a former Committee member of the Association of Authors’ Agents and was shortlisted in 2014 and 2020 for the Agent of the Year Award. She was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2021.
