In this XPO North panel session, we’ll discuss how story telling plays into tourism and cultural heritage. From battlefields to urban landscapes, tragic tales and hidden stories, how do we narrate our heritage – whether that’s orally, visually, or digitally – as effectively, and innovatively, as possible, and how can we communicate this to a variety of audiences?

    Dr Thea Stevens
    Design School, Glasgow School of Art

    Dr Stevens is a historian of visual, material and built culture, and her research and teaching interests emphasise political and ideological connotations and frameworks. She employs a particular focus on place, experience, and ‘dark’, hidden or intangible histories, and has also worked in cultural heritage and experiential tourism.

    Director, Bright White Ltd

    Chris Walker is a founding director of Bright White Ltd, a design and delivery consultancy based in York. For 15 years Chris has been working with different clients to deliver learning-led projects in the museums, archives and cultural sectors. Bright White has won multiple awards for its work, mainly for innovation and the use of technology for good.

    Malcolm Maclean
    Arts and Heritage Consultant

    Malcolm Maclean is a visual artist, arts producer and heritage consultant based in the Outer Hebrides. He was founding Chair of An Lanntair and CEO of the national Gaelic arts agency, Proiseact Nan Ealan, before being appointed Chair of UNESCO Scotland.

    Stephanie Smith
    Director, Nova Scotia Museums

    Stephanie has been recently appointed as the Executive Director of Archives, Museums & Libraries Nova Scotia. She worked on several renewal /development projects in the Nova Scotia Museum, finishing her tenure there as Director.

    Judith Owens
    CEO, TBL, International (Titanic Belfast, SS Nomadic, Titanic Exhibition Centre)
